# OpenSlide 4.0.0 released with DICOM WSI support!

We are happy to announce the release of OpenSlide 4.0.0 - the first new release in 8 years! - which now includes support of DICOM Whole Slide Imaging!

Development of DICOM WSI functionality in OpenSlide was initiated and funded by the NCI Imaging Data Commons project with the goal to simplify the use of the DICOM WSI data available in IDC.
