Direct download from the portal does not work

Where can I find help in troubleshooting the direct download? I’ve tried using both Chrome and Edge browsers, but the download progress bare immediately finishes (Download complete). Folder names with correct instance IDs are created, but they are empty. I’ve tried using different networks, as I thought it might be some URL filtering or ports (private vs public vs work network), to no avail.

The actual study ID I’m trying to download is: 1.2.826.0.1.3680043.8.498.97741943304957983226835086507076383452

This is a good place, or maybe in the Support area rather than Announcements if you have follow up questions.

For the download, can you try again today? I just tested and that data is downloading for me now (chrome on mac). For anyone else who wants to test this feature the collection is BoneMarrowWSI-PediatricLeukemia and the case ID is 06409663226AF2F3114485AA4E0A23B4

@Mapaul83 you asked it in the right place! I just split off the conversation into a separate thread to improve organization.

If you continue experiencing issues, can you please let us know if you see any errors in the Developer console? (“View > Developer > Developer Tools” in Chrome)

Note that the slides in the BoneMarrowWSI-PediatricLeukemia collection are quite large - one slide can be on the order of 10GB. Please confirm you have sufficient disk space!

Thanks pieper. Tried again today, now with chrome browser as well with same result.
Download is immediately completed.
sincere regards

@fedorov Thank you for the swift reply. Tried posting the Dev Console Output, but seems I need to remove the links *edited

Interesting… I have no idea! I will ask our lead developer for the portal to look into this as well.

Do you have any security software installed - network communication filters, antivirus? Anything that may be blocking the application or network connections?

In the meantime, if you have python on your system, you can install idc-index package to download this study from the command line:

pip install --upgrade idc-index
idc download 1.2.826.0.1.3680043.8.498.97741943304957983226835086507076383452

@fedorov Thank you for the reply. I’ve previously tried the idc-index package, but encountered a different error where the download proceeds with very low download speeds (<500 kb/s), without a progress bar and it finally times out. I guess that’s a topic for another post :stuck_out_tongue:
In regards your questions about security software: no. neither here nor at work. I’ve even tried using a shared wifi hotspot with 5G-connected phone.
thanks again for your help

How about we try to schedule a videocall so you can share your screen and we can debug together?

@fedorov Yes, that would be helpful. I’m at CET (UTC +1). Could we schedule a video call via Teams next week? Thanks again

I emailed the doodle poll link!

@Mapaul83 - @spaquett identified a bug on Windows with portal direct download. The issue is that the maximum path length is by default capped at 256 or something like that, which is below the path length. Since you mentioned Edge, I suspect you are on Windows?

Maybe this might explain why your download using idc-index is very slow, since I would expect it is affected by the same path length limit issue.

Thank you all. I will attempt it on Ubuntu WSI
