New IDC Portal feature adds the capability to open radiology images using open source VolView viewer by Kitware Inc.

To update the original post, recently Kitware implemented new features in VolView 4.3 that makes it possible to visualize segmentations in DICOM SEG!
You can follow the demonstration in the video above to open DICOM studies that include segmentations and are contained in IDC, just select VolView in the viewer drop-down.
Segmentations linked to the image series will be loaded automatically - you don’t need to do anything special, but note that there is some delay while loading is happening.
But it’s worth the wait! If all works as expected, as an example, opening this sample study link should result in the following visualization.
